Zara Tindall is heading back to her beloved second home in Australia – and fans are already excited!
Zara Tindall, along with her husband Mike Tindall, is preparing to return to what they affectionately call their 'home away from home' in Australia next year. The couple will once again participate in the Magic Millions polo event on the Gold Coast, an annual tradition that has become a cherished part of their calendar. Their connection to this tournament runs deep, with both Zara and Mike serving as long-time patrons and advocates for the sport.
Magic Millions co-owner Katie Page-Harvey shared her excitement about the upcoming 2026 event, announcing, 'I am thrilled to confirm the renewals of our entire Magic Millions ambassador family: Zara and Mike Tindall, Billy and Nicole Slater, Nacho Figueras and Delfina Blaquier, and Hamish McLachlan. We couldn’t do it without them.' She continued, emphasizing their unique contributions: 'Zara Tindall MBE, an Olympic equestrian, and Mike Tindall MBE, a world champion athlete and successful racehorse owner, bring unparalleled expertise and passion. Billy and Nicole represent Australian sporting excellence and thoroughbred breeding dedication, Nacho and Delfina add the flair and skill of top-level polo, and Hamish ties it all together as the masterful storyteller. Their combined energy elevates every aspect of the Carnival, from the beach to the bustling sales ring.'
It’s no wonder the Tindalls feel so at home in Australia. The country holds sentimental value for them, as it was where their love story began. Back in 2003, the couple met at a Sydney bar: Mike was recovering from the disappointment of being dropped from the England Rugby World Cup team, while Zara was enjoying a gap year adventure with friends. That fateful encounter set the stage for a lifelong partnership.
Reflecting on their annual pilgrimage to Queensland, Zara shared with Hello!, 'We have always loved Australia, and it truly feels like a home from home. Visiting Queensland has become a New Year tradition for us. While the Magic Millions carnival is packed with activities, being on the beach with fellow horse enthusiasts celebrating equestrian life is the perfect way to start the year.'
As a Magic Millions ambassador since 2012, Zara has always made time for horse racing and polo alongside fellow ambassadors, including Nacho Figueras and his wife Delfina Blaquier, who are close friends of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Fans hoping to see Mike Tindall in the saddle may have to wait a bit longer; the former rugby star once admitted that riding along Surfers’ Paradise Beach with Zara and Nacho looks effortless and impressive, but he prefers cheering from the sidelines. 'Believe me,' he told the magazine, 'my place is on the sidelines, applauding their skills!'
Could an Olympic comeback be on the horizon? Zara doesn’t rule it out. With the Summer Olympics scheduled for Brisbane in 2032, the 43-year-old royal hinted at the possibility of returning to competitive equestrian sports after winning her silver medal at the London 2012 Games. 'I’d love another Olympic run,' she said. 'Even if I don’t, I’m incredibly fortunate to have competed at my home Olympics.' A world-class equestrian, Zara led Team GB to a podium finish at Greenwich Park, riding High Kingdom.
The emotional highlight of her Olympic experience was receiving her silver medal from her mother, Princess Anne. The Princess Royal made history herself as the first royal to compete in the Olympics, participating in the equestrian three-day event at the 1976 Montreal Games atop the late Queen Elizabeth’s horse, Goodwill.
But here’s where it gets intriguing: with their children Mia, 11, Lena, seven, and Lucas, four, also feeling at home Down Under, could the Tindalls eventually make Australia their permanent family base? It's a tantalizing question, especially with the 2032 Olympics on the horizon. What do you think – will Zara and Mike make Australia their new family hub, or will they continue their beloved annual visits? Share your thoughts in the comments!
