White Sox Welcome Back Ryan Borucki with a Minor League Deal
The White Sox have announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Ryan Borucki to a minor league deal, which includes an invitation to the team's big league Spring Training camp. This marks a homecoming of sorts for Borucki, who was born and raised just north of Chicago in Mundelein, Illinois. With eight seasons of Major League Baseball (MLB) experience under his belt, Borucki brings valuable veteran expertise to the White Sox's relief corps, which is still in the midst of a rebuild.
The White Sox's relief corps has been a source of concern, with Brandon Eisert and Tyler Gilbert, the team's top left-handed options, having underwhelming performances in 2025. Borucki's addition provides much-needed depth, especially against left-handed batters, as he has struggled against right-handed hitters and has a history of allowing home runs. Over his career, Borucki has a 4.28 ERA, 19.7% strikeout rate, and 8.9% walk rate in 256 1/3 innings. However, he has shown some promise in avoiding fly balls, with a 51.8% grounder rate over 135 1/3 innings from 2021-2025.
In 2025, Borucki struggled with the Pirates and Blue Jays, posting a 4.63 ERA, 22% strikeout rate, and 11% walk rate in 35 innings. He signed a minor league deal with Pittsburgh last winter and later joined his original team, the Toronto Blue Jays, on another minors contract after being released by the Pirates in August. However, the Jays designated Borucki for assignment and outrighted him in September after just four MLB outings.
Despite his recent struggles, Borucki has the opportunity to prove himself and potentially earn a spot on the White Sox's roster. With his experience and the team's focus on developing young pitchers, Borucki's performance in Spring Training will be crucial in determining his future with the organization.
