Get ready for a leadership shake-up at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Singapore! From February 1, 2026, Dr. Jamie Mervyn Lim will be taking the reins as the new CEO. But here's where it gets interesting: Dr. Lim is currently the CEO of Ren Ci Hospital, a role he will be relinquishing on January 18.
Dr. Lim's extensive leadership experience across acute and community care sectors is a key reason for his appointment. NHG Health, the organization behind IMH, believes his expertise will drive IMH's next phase of growth, focusing on building an even stronger mental health continuum beyond the hospital walls.
And this is the part most people miss: IMH is home to a significant portion of Singapore's psychiatrists, which means it has a unique responsibility to support other public hospitals.
During Dr. Lim's time at Ren Ci, the hospital expanded its services to the north of Singapore, opening a new nursing home in Woodlands and increasing its bed capacity to over 1,300. He also transformed Ren Ci's home care services and built new capabilities, making it the only organization with a full suite of post-acute care services.
But let's not forget the outgoing CEO, Associate Professor Daniel Fung. Under his leadership, IMH strengthened its position as NHG Health's specialist center for psychiatric care in Singapore. Prof. Fung is a well-known advocate for a whole-of-society approach to mental health, both locally and internationally.
Prof. Joe Sim, group CEO of NHG Health, had this to say about Prof. Fung: "Over the past four years, IMH has made significant strides in prevention and community care, thanks to Daniel's leadership. We are especially grateful for his efforts in integrating mental healthcare into our broader hospital network."
So, as we welcome Dr. Lim to IMH, we also bid farewell to Prof. Fung. It's a transition that highlights the importance of mental health leadership and the impact it can have on our society.
