The Pittsburgh Pirates are gearing up for an exciting event, PiratesFest, where fans can get up close and personal with the team's rising stars. One of the most anticipated attendees is outfielder Esmerlyn Valdez, who had a stellar 2025 season and is poised to make a splash in 2026.
Valdez, a fan favorite, is set to grace PiratesFest with his presence, as he takes a break from his preparations for an impressive 2026 season. In a recent social media post, Valdez excitedly announced his attendance, expressing his eagerness to meet fans and share his journey.

Esmerlyn Valdez's 2025 Season
Valdez's 2025 campaign was nothing short of remarkable. His outstanding performance earned him a spot on the 40-man roster, as the Pirates strategically protected him from the Rule 5 Draft. Valdez began his season at High-A Greensboro, where he shone as one of the best prospects in the South Atlantic League.
In 72 games, Valdez slashed an impressive .303/.385/.592, achieving an OPS of .977. He accumulated 84 hits, 18 doubles, one triple, 20 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 31 walks, while striking out 77 times. Valdez's dominance in the South Atlantic League was evident, as he led in seven statistical categories at the time of his promotion to Double-A Altoona on July 1.
His promotion to Altoona further solidified his status as a top prospect. In 51 games, Valdez slashed .260/.363/.409, achieving an OPS of .772. He recorded 47 hits in 181 at-bats, seven doubles, one triple, six home runs, 29 RBIs, and 25 walks, while striking out 53 times. Valdez's contributions were instrumental in the Curve's Eastern League West Division Second Half Title, securing their playoff spot.
Valdez's impact was so significant that he set an affiliate record for the Curve. On September 16, he drove in five RBIs in an 11-5 comeback playoff win over the Erie Seawolves, the Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Valdez's 2025 season concluded with impressive stats, including a .286/.376/.520 slash line, 131 hits, 25 doubles, two triples, 26 home runs, 86 RBIs, and 56 walks, while striking out 130 times.
Valdez's excellence was recognized with several honors, including the South Atlantic League MVP for his time in Greensboro and the Willie Stargell Slugger of the Year, awarded to the best power hitter in the Pirates' farm system.
Valdez's Stellar Performance in Arizona Fall League
Valdez's outstanding play continued into the Arizona Fall League, where he showcased his talent with the Salt River Rafters. In 19 AFL games, Valdez slashed an incredible .368/.513/.842, achieving an OPS of 1.355. He scored 19 runs, accumulated 21 hits, three doubles, eight home runs, 27 RBIs, and 19 walks, while striking out 12 times.
Valdez's performance in the AFL was truly remarkable, as he led the league in home runs, outperforming the next two players by three home runs each. He also led in RBIs and boasted the best slugging percentage. Valdez's overall performance ranked him second in OPS and total bases (48), tied for fifth in walks and on-base percentage, sixth in batting average, tied for eighth in runs scored, and tied for 17th in hits.
Valdez's exceptional play earned him a spot in the Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby on November 8 and the All-Star Game, dubbed the Fall Stars Game on November 9, both held at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona. In the Home Run Derby, Valdez finished second with 16 home runs and 23 points, falling short to Tony Blanco Jr., who won with 24 home runs and 32 points.
Valdez also started in right field for the National League in the Fall Stars Game, becoming the sole Pirates representative. His outstanding performance in the Arizona Fall League earned him the Offensive Player of the Year honor, given to the best hitter in the league.
