Ghosts S5E7 Recap: Bela’s Engagement Drama, Sassapes, and a Dreamy Twist (2026)

Bold opening: Ghosts season 5, episode 7 blends romantic misfires, dream-world miscommunications, and basement-breathing mischief into a surprisingly tangled night at Woodstone.

Ghosts fans know the living gossip as eagerly as the afterlife drama, and this episode leans into that dynamic. Hetty, Trevor, Alberta, and Pete peek from an upstairs window as Sassapis waits on a visit from his girlfriend Joan—who, as everyone suspects, isn’t returning. Jay even complains that Sass is using his dream-walking abilities to mope over Joan.

The next morning brings Bela’s dramatic engagement announcement to her boyfriend Eric, based on Bela reading small signals—visits, nail-care questions, and ring-size hints. The enthusiasm is premature, mirroring Sam hinting she’d like to be Bela’s maid of honor. Bela and the ghosts note the awkwardness of that suggestion with a mix of humor and restraint.

Meanwhile, Pete and Isaac debate how Isaac’s basement strategy—aka the constant, low-stakes social maneuvering with the basement ghosts—lands. Isaac longs for a real achievement, even something as modest as a “ghost representative” position that gets him a say, or at least a nod from Sam.

Soon Bela retracts the engagement that never truly happened. Eric canceled the trip for work and claimed he needed Bela’s ring size for a couple’s bowling set. Bela, unknowingly using a phrase Sassapis would, feels emotionally bruised: she’s been swept into romantic disappointment. After sulking, Sam explains she’s orchestrating a genuine surprise proposal with Eric, having him pretend to cancel to set Bela up for a dream moment.

Sass—missing the second half of that conversation—drops into Bela’s dream to comfort her. They bond over shared disappointments and end up leaning on one another, leading to a private, impulsive moment: they connect emotionally, then physically.

The next morning, Sass trips over the consequences when he confesses to Sam that he might be a homewrecker, since the experiences occurred in Bela’s dreamscape. The group debates moral ambiguity—the actions weren’t real in Bela’s waking life, at least for her.

Isaac’s own lie-catcher moment comes when Nancy exposes him as not a “real basement ghost” after he slips out to the couch for comfort. The basement crew sets the stage: Isaac must prove himself by joining the basement fight club. Pete reveals he’s a longtime admirer of the thing, nudging Isaac toward a fight even as nerves spike.

At a restaurant, Bela works while Sam, Jay, and the ghosts reveal they know about the affair and insist Bela shouldn’t feel guilty because it wasn’t technically real. But Bela’s hurt remains, especially since she felt strung along by Eric. Sam’s honesty about the proposal plan follows, and Bela condemns herself for cheating on Eric—perceiving Sassapis as a back-up option. Eric himself interrupts, revealed to have overheard the entire confession after hiding in a dishwasher box he installed. He’s kind and earnest, yet deeply hurt.

That setback hits hard: Eric needs space.

In the basement fight club, Isaac faces a large opponent. Pete coaches him, and Isaac lands a knockout. The loss earns him the respect of the basement ghosts, turning defeat into a form of victory.

That night, Sass apologizes in a Bob Ross–style dream, seeking forgiveness. Eric admits the idea of Bela being fixated on ghosts doesn’t sit well with him. Yet Sass argues that, unlike Bela, Eric is alive and free to pursue what he wants. The conversation reframes love as an opportunity rather than a trap, and a bridge forms between forgiveness and honesty.

Back at the restaurant, Jay and Bela share a candid moment. Bela admits fear of starting over and losing her trajectory, but Jay notices she never explicitly says she loves Eric or wants their shared future. The implication is clear: Bela isn’t certain about her feelings; she’s settling due to fear of loneliness or lagging behind life’s timetable. A difficult truth emerges: Bela likely needs to end things with Eric.

Endgame arrives suddenly. Eric, once again hiding, overhears the conversations and is blindsided. He even brings his parents to witness the moment, adding insult to heartbreak. Sam’s attempt to stage a meaningful engagement collides with raw reality, and Bela’s emotional honesty surfaces too late for Eric to feel seen.

In response to the chaos, Jay pivots: he plans to craft a new engagement moment for Sam. He recreates a Bahamas vacation in memory and display, presenting it as the couple’s revitalized proposal. The gesture earns Sam’s gratitude and reinforces their commitment—demonstrating that even imperfect plans can carry genuine meaning when guided by care and clarity.

If this recap has you curious about how dreams collide with real-life decisions, whether you think Bela should stay with Eric or follow a different path, or how Isaac’s journey from lie to legitimacy evolves, share your take in the comments. Do dream-induced actions count as real consequences? Is pursuing a partner’s happiness worth risking honesty? The conversation is just getting started.
